History

Wauwatosa, Wisconsin is a community known for its great schools, bio-tech development, and residential development. Today, the city is home to more than 47,000 residents. The city is located on the western side of Madison, Wisconsin. It is part of the Upper Menomonee River Parkway System. In addition, it has a number of historical structures.

Wauwatosa was first inhabited by the Menominee and Potawatomi Native Americans. They fished in the nearby Menominee River.

Wauwatosa’s first settlements were on the west side of the Menomonee River. The first permanent settlement was established by Charles Hart. He built a gristmill and sawmill on the west side of the river. A few years later, he learned of an area five miles west. This land became the kernel of the village.

The town was incorporated in 1892. It was the first city of the fourth class. Emerson Hoyt was elected mayor of the town.

When a great fire destroyed the village in 1892, the town board decided to create a paid part-time fire department. Also, they created a firehouse.

Improvements to the pool

The project also included a new pool and park, as well as a redesigned changing complex. The facility features a zero-entry design, a diving board, and a lap pool.

Improvements to the Grand Hall

The grand hall at Hoyt Park in Wauwatosa isn’t just for birthday parties. It’s a great venue for business meetings or graduations. A recent renovation has restored some of the original fixtures, such as the old concession stand. Among the funest features is a closet door, which opens up to reveal a large wheel turning dumbwaiter elevator.

Aside from the Grand Hall, Hoyt Park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors, including hiking trails and the playground. There’s even a sand volleyball area. If you’re looking for a more traditional recreation, you can try out the Tosa Pool. This historic building was built in 1939.

In recent years, the park has been remodeled to meet the demands of a changing community. For example, the shuffleboard hall underwent a major facelift in 2018. One of the most fun aspects of the park is that you can rent the grand hall for events and functions.

The Park has recently undergone a reconstruction. It was acquired by the City of Wauwatosa in 1928. In 1936, the park was transferred back to the Milwaukee Park Commission.
